The ILGCN declares August 9 as the

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF LGBT CULTURE

The day honors those courageous LGBT culture workers combating homophobia and intolerance over the ages, every day today and in the future.

It also marks the 1914 birthday of Swedish-Finnish writer/artist Tove Jansson -- creator of Mumintroll and his colleagues -- and honors her 40-year long relationship with her woman, art/historian Tuulikki Pietiläa. Tove was a proud member and award winner of Tupilak - Nordic rainbow culture workers.

The idea has been inspired by the Romanian Culture Institute in Stockholm celebrating Romanian Culture Day!
